Hoof & Paw Pet Sitting, LLC is a mother and daughter owned business founded in 2005. This business was started for many reasons, the love of animals the first and foremost. We also started this business to teach the younger member of the team a good work ethic along with the value of hard work, to earn money to enter horse trials and for her education. Mom does most of the paperwork and finances, along with most of the weekday morning small animal pet sitting, but she also has much experience caring for horses and can muck a stall with the best of them. Allegra works very hard and takes care of the large animals, and the small animals evenings and weekends.
About Allegra: I am high school student at Apex High. I love animals! I've been around animals my entire life. We have always had dogs and cats, birds, the occasional ferret or hamster. Currently we have 2 dogs, 4 cats and 3 horses.
I started riding horses when I was 5. I spent seveal years riding hunters, and in the spring of 2006 switched to eventing. I love riding, especially eventing, and I work very hard to be the best rider I can. I also have an awesome trainer that makes each lesson a great learning experience. Hopefully one day I will be an Olympic rider.
A love of animals is truly a genetic trait in our family, as my mothers, mother has been a pet sitter for 30 years in Rhode Island. We are both certified in Pet First Aid and CPR.
Experience: Horses: My mom and I have owned horses since 2001 and boarded for several years. We currently own 3 horses. We have kept our horses in a self care situation for the last 4 years, and we currently keep 2 in that self care situation, where I feed and care for them twice a day. Our third horse, Nick is leased to Ben & Erin Tursam's Riding School in Apex. I work as the "backup" person at the Tursam's 20 stall eventing barn feeding, turning horses out, and doing what needs to be done when the other workers go on vacation or need time off. I worked at a 14 stall hunter barn the summer and fall of 2006 feeding, blanketing, and doing turn in/turn out until they hired a full time person.
House Pets: We have always had many pets cats, dogs, rabbits, ferrets, rodents, etc., and it seems that many of them have been special needs. My Australian Shepherd, Kali, was one of those, and probably the most extreme. Kali had her first episode of epilepsy at one year old and she was only 5.5 when we had to put her down. Her epilepsy was very hard to control, and she was on doses of phenobarbitol and potassium bromide for a dog 4 times her size. I administered her medication twice daily, I administered her valium during a seizure, and I took care of her afterwards. We also have a poodle that had to have a form of hip replacement surgery. The care and feeding of our pets is my responsibility. I take good care of my pets, and I will take good care of yours too.
Hoof & Paw Pet Sitting, LLC is fully insured for the safety of your pets, and your property. All sitters are certified in Pet First Aid and CPR.
